Smart locks, keypads and fobs are only worth fitting to doors in Sharon that are mechanically sound. So we check alignment and the bore first, install the hardware, then sit with you while codes are set and a phone is paired. Every electronic lock we fit keeps a mechanical key as a backup, and you leave knowing how to use both.

Shop rules

Hardware chosen for winter, fitted with care.

  1. Explained first, always. Nothing gets removed, drilled or replaced until you know what and why. That rule holds for a small job as much as a full afternoon.
  2. Hardware chosen with you. We show what we recommend and what else would do the job, and describe the differences in plain terms. You make the call.
  3. Care for the finish. We match hardware finishes where we can, protect the door surface while working and leave no scuffs, filings or fingerprints behind.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Let's sort out your door.

How a visit goes

Plenty of people call us slightly embarrassed, as if losing a key or snapping one in the cold were a personal failing. It is not; brass wears, pockets have holes, and locks age.

    Step 1 of 5

    Call and describe the door

Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

    On our way

Together we list the doors, then decide who should open everything, who should open a floor and who should open one room. That structure becomes the keying chart.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 28 in 100 homes · newer homes
  • About 28% of homes in East Gwillimbury were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Where housing is new, garage entries, side doors and the front door were usually fitted at the same time but not always to the same key. Keying them alike is a small job that makes the household's ring simpler from the start.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 81% of homes in East Gwillimbury (2021 Census).Detached houses collect hardware from every renovation. A locksmith visiting one often finds three keyways, two finishes and one door that never latched right. Sorting all of that into a consistent, working set is a satisfying afternoon's work.

Curious about the process?

My lock is a high-security model. Can it still be opened?

Yes. High-security cylinders with security pins, sidebars or restricted keyways are designed to slow an intruder, and they do slow a locksmith too, but they open with the right technique, a decoder made for that keyway, or as a last resort a precise drill through the cylinder followed by a like-for-like replacement. Bring any key card or code card that came with the lock, since restricted keys are cut from those records rather than copied.

Will we get something in writing afterwards?

Yes. The visit closes with a written account of which door was opened and how, the condition the hardware was in, anything replaced, the number of keys cut and who received them. Landlords ask for it when locks on a unit change, insurers after a loss, and franchise head offices as a matter of course. Keep it with the lease; it also tells the next locksmith exactly what is on your doors.

Does the glue trick work?

It is a well-known idea and a poor one. A drop of adhesive on the other half rarely bonds to a piece of brass sitting in a tight keyway, and what it does bond to is the cylinder, the pins and the face of the lock. That film then has to be dissolved before proper extractors can slide in. Keep the halves apart and dry.

Will my insurer want to see the damage before it is repaired?

Insurers ask policyholders to document the loss, keep damaged property and hold on to receipts, and a securing visit is expected rather than discouraged, because an open door invites more loss. Photograph everything as found, keep the broken hardware in a bag, keep the invoice, and call your insurer as soon as the house is safe. The adjuster can see the old parts and the photos; the door itself need not stay open.
